Missouri S&T – News & Events – S&T Poetry and Writing Contest deadline extended to October 1
Missouri S&T 150th anniversary poetry and writing competition the deadline has been extended until Wednesday October 1.
The free literary competition, held in partnership with Arts Rolla, is open to all Missouri residents aged 12 and over, as well as S&T alumni and overseas and international students enrolled in S&T. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the adult and youth divisions (12-17 years old).
The winning poems and stories will be included in the university’s time capsule this fall and published in the 2022 edition of southerly winds. Authors will also be invited to read their submissions at an upcoming 150th anniversary celebration event.
Original works of poetry and flash fiction must be family-friendly compositions written by the submitting author. All work should be S&T in one way or another. For example, authors may choose to write in the voice of a miner, write about a single memory of their S&T time that inspired them, or write about what they hope to accomplish in the past. Next 150 years for S&T and the world.
Submissions will be judged on theme, judge’s impression, technique, efficiency, style and creativity. Each person can enter up to two submissions. All submissions must be unpublished work.
