Images from a year ago showing leaders of the United States, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Israel signing the Abrahamic Accords on the White House lawn will be forever etched in the memory of residents of our region. Although officially a normalization treaty, the Abrahamic Accords represent a coming together of forward-looking nations, a warm peace founded on similar values, and a desire to leverage innovation and cooperation to connect nations. people, overcome regional challenges and benefit from shared opportunities.

At Start-Up Nation Central, a non-profit organization that connects global entities to Israel’s technology innovation sector, we strongly believe in the diplomacy of innovation – using innovation to connect and build relationships to long term between countries.

The Abrahamic Accords provide perhaps the most vivid example of this new foundation for international relations – of nations that have identified such immense opportunity in each other’s capacities, that they have forged binational bonds to make them. prosper.

Looking back on the past year, I couldn’t be happier with the way things are going. By the time the agreements were signed, we knew it was our responsibility to open the doors as part of our mission to leverage the diplomatic agreement in mutually beneficial trade relations. I believe that the areas that offer the best opportunities for cooperation are those in which we share the same challenges and therefore seek similar solutions, whether it is climatic conditions, geostrategic threats or the common fight against infectious diseases. . With our respective strengths working together, we can form a regional powerhouse of innovative solutions to global challenges.

The trade potential of the Agreements is gradually materializing, with tens of thousands of Israelis having visited the United Arab Emirates in recent months, dozens of Israeli companies operating in the GCC, numerous contracts and memoranda of understanding signed, and a series of government and business delegations that promise many more collaborations in the future. Start-Up Nation Central itself had the honor of welcoming eminent personalities, including the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Israel, Mohamed Al Khaja, the Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates for Food and Water Security. , Mariam Bint Mohammad Al Muhairi, and Bahrain’s Under-Secretary for International Relations, Dr Shaikh Abdulla Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, all with the aim of expanding innovation-driven partnerships.

The seeds that were planted a year ago are starting to bear fruit. As the world turns to the post-pandemic era and the new digital age, I think we’ll see many more cases of innovation diplomacy, with the Abraham Accords setting a shining example for the rest of the world.
