Titian’s vision of women: Beauty – Love – Poetry
Women played a prominent role in public life in 16th-century Venice and were often idealized by the city’s painters. Titian was an excellent example; this exhibition at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (October 5-January 16, 2022) explores how he and contemporaries such as Tintoretto created a new vision of femininity, combining realistic and historical portraiture,
mythological and allegorical representations. Some 60 international loans from institutions such as the Met, Prado and Uffizi are included, as well as works from the strong collection of Venetian paintings in Vienna. For more information, visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum website.
