Amazon India launches campaign to honor Amazon women who lead by example


E-commerce giant Amazon has launched “SheIsAmazon”, a campaign to shine a light on female employees, associates and partners who have not only fought societal, cultural, disability and economic barriers to achieve their dreams, but are also redefining the powerful role of a woman in the fast-paced e-commerce industry. The campaign is part of this year’s theme, “Break the Bias”. It was launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

“At Amazon, inclusion is at the heart of all of our decision-making, and we believe it’s not only good for society but also good for business. ‘SheIsAmazon’ is a simple effort to recognize great work done by many women across Amazon India,” said Swati Rustagi, Director, DE&I, International Markets, WW Consumer, Amazon. “There are thousands of women every day breaking down prejudice and succeeding in roles and unconventional profiles.We are grateful to all of these remarkable women for making Amazon an inclusive and progressive workplace.



Amazon India said it has made significant efforts to boost diversity in the workplace with pioneering programs and inclusion initiatives such as Amazon’s revival program. The program provides opportunities and helps women to reintegrate professionally and resume their career in business after a break; Structured onboarding, targeted mentorship, flexible work options, and on-the-job learning are key elements of the program.

A program specifically designed for women in tech, “Amazon WoW” helps engineering students build long-term careers in technology; they can interact with Amazon executives, attend workshops, connect with alumni about career experiences, and can apply for positions at Amazon.

In addition to the Military Veteran Employment Program, which creates work opportunities for military veterans and their spouses, Amazon also offers a Military Ambassador Program (MAP). It focuses on the specific development needs of veterans and provides tailored training experiences to support them in their transition and disability hiring initiatives.

“I am so happy to be treated as an equal in my workplace,” said Sindhu Mary, a proud trans woman and Amazon India fulfillment center associate. “Financial stability and opportunities for growth make me feel independent and worthy. I honestly want to say to everyone in my community that when the right platform is offered to you, seize the opportunity and do your best.

Amazon said it was driven by its commitment to creating a great workplace that promotes fairness, empathy, respect for people, and an equal work environment. Women have always taken the lead when it comes to breaking down prejudice. The company said it takes courage, strength and willpower to challenge social norms and what women have been asked to do all these years. “Honoring women for their courage and zeal is our goal on this Women’s Day,” the company said.

As part of the campaign, Amazon is launching a coffee table book that gives you insight into the professional and personal lives of these women and their journeys of hope, struggle and success. The foreword to the coffee table book is written by Aruna Sharma, IAS, former Secretary to the Government of India, where she reiterates the need to accelerate women’s participation in the workplace, to realize the vision of an India truly independent.
