NJ’s 2nd Legislative District is the most publicized race on the ballot this year. One of the most “swingi” districts of NJ, it is one of the few competitive legislative races on which we will salivate.
Don Guardian, former mayor of Atlantic City and candidate for the NJ General Assembly, was backed by Log Cabin Republicans, an organization for politically conservative LGBT people.
Ashton Theodore-Randle is the Tri-State President of Log Cabin Republican.
“Log Cabin Republicans is delighted to support Don Guardian for NJ State Assembly District 2,” Theodore-Randle told InsiderNJ.
Seventeen towns make up NJ’s 2nd Legislative District, including Egg Harbor Township, Pleasantville, and Atlantic City.
The other towns in this Atlantic County district are Absecon, Brigantine, Buena Borough, Buena Vista Township, Egg Harbor City, Folsom Borough, Hamilton Township, Linwood, Longport Borough, Margate City, Mullica Township, Northfield, Somers Point City and Ventnor. City.
“He has been a fighter for all communities and a champion of the American values that our organization represents,” added Mr. Theodore-Randle. “We believe he will be a dynamic leader in the chamber, working to ensure sound policy development in Trenton.”
Mayor Guardian Log Cabin’s endorsement complements his early summer endorsement of the Victory Fund, a non-partisan organization dedicated to LGBT elections from all walks of life. Don Guardian even found support from Democrats (including me and my partner who both sent a check.)
Garden State Equality has yet to vote on legislative approval, but their executive director, Christian Fuscarino, is in Guardian’s camp.
“Guardian is a qualified candidate with a track record and we all have to help him win in November,” Mr Fuscarino told InsiderNJ.
There are currently no LGBTQ members in the New Jersey state legislature, which has 120 seats. In a state that is reliably liberal, it is slightly surprising that this is a Republican in the best position to break that streak.
Worshiping Mr. Randall, “Republicans at Log Cabin have a proud history of fighting to build a stronger, more inclusive Republican Party. LGBT Republicans and their heterosexual allies have chosen to transform the GOP from within, striving to overcome forces of exclusion and intolerance.
Jay Lassiter is an award-winning writer and podcaster. He doesn’t live in the districts but if he did he would vote Don Guardian for the assembly.
