Author and domestic violence survivor Carolyn Colleen shares her personal story of perseverance and more at the Fort McCoy Women’s Equality Day 2022 celebration held August 25, 2022 at McCoy’s Community Center in Fort McCoy, Wis.
The event featured many exhibits on women’s equality.
The event, hosted by Equal Opportunity Advisor Master Sgt. Ana Guzman of the Fort McCoy Garrison Equal Opportunity Office recognizes the day the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution was passed on August 26, 1920, giving women the right to vote.
Fort McCoy Garrison Commander Col. Stephen Messenger thanked Colleen for her presentation.
“It was just a really powerful story, and thank you so much for sharing it,” Messenger said. “I took some notes myself. I wrote leadership, and I talk about it all the time. It’s not the one who consumes, it’s the one who provides, and we have so many leaders who love to consume, and it’s about them versus providing and the aspect of servant leadership and that to me really touched. It was awesome. The second… leadership is a journey. It’s not about your accomplishments, but about the accomplishments of the people around you. It’s like you’re talking about — what a strong, powerful example of a woman… thank you Carolyn. It was an incredible story.
Fort McCoy’s motto is “Total Force Training Center”. Located in the heart of the Upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only US Army installation in Wisconsin.
The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 service members of all services nearly every year since 1984.
