By on September 24, 2021 0

You can have individual sports cards, unopened packs and boxes, encapsulated and rated tickets and autographs. Reviews too. The new Heritage Auctions catalog includes several authenticated and classified copies of Sports Illustrated, including the highest rated copy from the first issue, August 1954.

The company’s September showcase auction includes 13 SIs all rated by CGC, which authenticates and ranks magazines since 2009. While CGC’s publication rating is primarily focused on comics where they are a leader in The field, rating magazines is gaining ground, some of which popular shows are selling for respectable sums.

The first edition of Sports Illustrated features Eddie Mathews of the Milwaukee Braves on the cover. It is dated August 16, 1954 and includes the first of three SIs in ’54 and ’55 which had a tri-fold gallery of Topps baseball card images. The magazine is rated 9.8 and currently has a high bid of $ 2,200.

The auction also includes Patrick Mahomes’ first appearance on the SI cover dating from his 2017 rookie season.

One of 11 ranked 9.8, it currently carries a rather astonishing high bid of $ 3,800.

CGC rates magazines on a 10-point scale similar to the one it uses for other paper collectibles.

Five issues of vintage SI swimsuits are also on offer in the Heritage online catalog, which is expected to close on Saturday.
